In a startling revelation of media manipulation, OneIndia News found itself at the center of controversy after distributing a doctored video that purported to show former President Donald Trump and political figure Vance reacting uncomfortably to Quran verses during a Muslim call to prayer. However, the truth behind the video tells a different story, one of deliberate misinformation.
The original footage, taken from an inauguration event, actually captured Trump and Vance's reactions to a speech by a far-left bishop. In an attempt to distort the perception of the viewers, OneIndia News not only used this footage but also subtly altered it by speeding up the response from the standard playback speed to 1.1 times its normal speed. This slight adjustment was enough to make the reaction appear unnaturally timed, enhancing a sense of discomfort.
NewsRescue, a media watchdog, stepped in to analyze and adjust the misleading video. They corrected the playback speed to its original tempo and superimposed it with the actual events, clearly demonstrating that the reactions were in response to the bishop's words, not to any Islamic call to prayer.
The manipulated video had originally gone viral with the caption: "LIVE | Trump & Vance React Uncomfortably to Quran Verses During Muslim Call to Prayer, Video Viral." This not only spread false information but also potentially fueled religious and cultural tensions.
This incident underscores the critical importance of media literacy among viewers and the ethical responsibilities of news organizations. It serves as a reminder of how easily content can be altered and misused to fit particular narratives, and the impact such manipulations can have on public perception and social harmony.
